Research interests

The goal of my research is to contribute to a better understanding of coupled human-environment systems on the land. I am particularly interested in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and the land use changes that happened in this region after the breakdown of socialism. My work aims at monitoring land use change, improving understanding of its underlying causes, and exploring land use effects on habitat fragmentation and biodiversity. Spatially explicit analyses including remote sensing, GIS, statistical models, and landscape ecology tools are the methodological foundation of my research.

Personal interests

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cooking and eating, doing sports (mainly basketball and snowboard), and watching my favourite football team Werder Bremen. I am also constantly working on expanding my vinyl record collection.
