Research interests

I am generally interested in wildlife and landscape ecology. In particular, I am interested in the actions we need to take and where we should take them to promote more effective conservation in a human-dominated landscape. For my Ph.D. work, I will be using models to look at connectivity among protected areas, to identify opportunities to improve connectivity, and where future housing growth is likely to eliminate opportunities to restore or maintain connectivity.

Personal interests

During 6 years in the Pacific Northwest, I came to love rock climbing and mountaineering. While I can still squeeze in some rock climbing at Devil's Lake and an occasional trip west to climb a mountain, my Midwest activities focus on bird watching, naturalizing, fishing and general time in nature.
